Orfeus and Eurydice fleeing the underworld. Veronese Bronze Full body statue, Greek Mythology

The Orpheus and Eurydice myth is an iconic tale from ancient Greek mythology. Their story is one of the most well-known and beloved in the realms of literature and art.

According to the myth, Orpheus was a legendary musician and poet, known for his ability to charm animals and objects with his lyre music. Orpheus fell in love with Eurydice, a nymph. However, their happiness was interrupted when Eurydice was bitten by a snake and died. Deeply saddened by the loss of his beloved, Orpheus decided to descend into the Underworld to bring her back to life. Using his lyre, he managed to move even Hades himself, persuading him to allow Eurydice to return to the world of the living. However, under one condition: as they journeyed back to the surface, Orpheus must not look back at Eurydice until they reached the surface.

Unfortunately, in the final moment, Orpheuss impatience and doubt led him to look back to see if Eurydice was following him, thus breaking the agreement with Hades. This act condemned Eurydice to return to the Underworld, losing forever the chance to return to the world of the living. Orpheus, singing his sorrow, continued his life with loneliness and grief.

This sculpture offers a source of inspiration and emotional connection for its owner.

Through the myth, it highlights concepts such as love, loss, resilience, and human spiritual strength.

Additionally, as a work of art, it can provide aesthetic enjoyment and decoration in any space where it is placed.
